Changing role of political Parties

A trend seen all over India is that different political parties do not have much difference in their economic policies if seen from broad perspective; same is true with Maharashtra. Economics can affect politics in big way. Economic discrimination gives Phillip to emotional politics and gives emergence to sub-regional emotional politics.1980’s onwards changes in economic policies affected politics of Maharashtra as it was leading state on economic, Industrial fronts, changes in these fields affected Maharashtra; specially power of politics to influence economic relations/Policies got affected enormously. These changing politico-economic environment’s Impacts could be illustrated as-

1- There is no importance in which party I am, party politics become directionless and redundant.
2- Common man is facing problem but he was not able to find its solutions through present political process or its rate is decreased.
3-Private / Self interest influenced political decision making specially in urban areas.

Earlier when political parties were more active with problems of common man so many organization’s, movements were working on Poverty, Education, Health etc issues but 1980’s onwards things changed drastically and this lead to one phenomenon which is more visible in 2010 known as ‘END OF PARTY SYSTEM’.

Political parties Main function is of Interest Aggregation is deteriorating and to fill the vacuum there is no strong option available. Middle class which is supposed to be ‘talking class’ in society is taking its foot back from such movements – this might be one of the reason behind pathetic condition of PDS – Mindset of middle class changed rapidly.

Non Governmental Organization’s emerged speedily and tried to fill the vacuum but those organization’s were working on non-political issues or oppose to politics out rightly. These Non Government Organizations, various civil society groups played role in creating awareness about governmental initiative and also in success of these initiatives. However NGO, Civil society group individually capable of focusing on narrower dimensions than desirable ‘Inclusive Growth’ of society due to this inherent and vital limitation they are incapable to aggregate interest and can only articulate interest. Important corollary of this is that they cannot give sustained support to burning issues of basic livelihood and those affecting quality of life. To deal with this kind of situation and aggregate interest, a wider platform is considered necessary and political parties are the only suitable form available in our democratic structure.

Presently political parties are detaching from ground realities making situation of livelihood and ‘Inclusive growth’ grave and serious , so need of hour is strong Political Party System which will inevitably engage grass-root workers in party organization in real sense and in a constructive way, which makes party accessible to common man and help to improve quality of live and achieve target of ‘Inclusive Growth'.

At present common people and specially Youth feel disillusioned with politics. To make politics more inclusive from the perspective of Youth of country is big task ahead of political parties. It is well within preview of party leadership; to give opportunity to young generation to present their stand in decision making process in this young country then only young blood will get attracted towards politics which play important role in development of country.
